I sent the strange recordings to headquarters for analysis.  They tell me that it does sound like a language, but not one that our experts have ever heard before.  Roger Stensen, who holds the Linguistics Chair at Harvard, told me in a recent interview:  “If it’s a hoax, it’s a damn good one.” 

He said that there was a fullness and richness to the language, and that it was not gibberish, as many in the press have speculated about.  He will keep me posted on any new findings. 

Of course, the tabloids have had a field day with this story, and there is news that several reporters from Planet-Wide News are on their way from Mars. They chartered a space cruiser and are due to arrive in a few days.

 Gen. Reginald MacGovern is not happy with all of the attention focused on Temendari; Commonly referred to as: Project 51

 It is said that the number 51 has significance with some of the ancient secret orders that are said to continue to control the destiny of the human race, but I will leave that aspect of the story to my colleagues over at Planet-Wide.

 I interviewed the General via a secure military landline.  Below is a partial transcript:

 Darlena: General. When myself and two others were abducted two weeks ago from our assignment near this station, your office issued a statement that the military was not involved in the incident.  Do you have any idea what might have occurred?

 Gen. MacGovern: Darlena, I can assure you that we are looking into that very question. So far, it remains a mystery.

 Darlena: Does the military have ships as described in my story. Ships that can use tractor beams on humans?

 Gen. MacGovern: I can’t answer that, Darlena.  Suffice to say, that whatever happened won’t happen again, and if it does, we’ll be ready to monitor the situation.

 Darlena: Logic prompts me to ask you why the ship wasn’t detected by the military.

 Gen. MacGovern: Logic also allows for pranks and other practical jokes, but I prefer to leave it as an open question.  If there are aliens out there, we would very much like to meet them.  And the public would be the first to know.

 Darlena: Unless, of course, the governing factions of the human race asked them nicely not to reveal their presence.

 Gen. MacGovern: Of course.

 There was more of the same.  I took my leave of the general and decided to take a closer look at Temendari.  If you do not hear from me in three days, send backup.
