Mars

Mars is the fourth planet from the Sun and is commonly referred to as the Red Planet. The rocks, soil and sky have a red or pink hue. The distinct red color was observed by stargazers throughout history. It was given its name by the Romans in honor of their god of war.

Forest Sphere - Sally Kirkland May 18th, 2375

Massive Dome Technology has reached new heights.  The brand new Forest Sphere opened yesterday to a gala event of galactic proportions.  The Mayor of Mars was there, as well as a special envoy delegation from earth.  The New World Forest Project helped to provide hundreds of thousands of natural and hybrid plants donated from our home planet.

The dome is over 2000 feet in diameter.  The glass windows are specially made to magnify the feeble sunlight that trickles in from our distant sun.

The forest has many paths and waterways, and after several minutes you’d think you were back on earth.  It might be due to the thousands of Birds that flock in the tree tops.  They seem to be adjusting to the difference in gravity well (see Bird on Mars story SK 1.5.2375).

The forest will provide one quarter of the carbon to oxygen conversion needed to maintain the forty-seven domes that comprise Mars City.
