“World Parameters” - suggestions….

The year is 2375.  The human race has actually survived, and colonized the solar system.  Unfortunately, they continue to possess the basic human traits, which causes strife from time to time.  Due to breakthroughs in ion technology, a trip from earth to the asteroids takes 5 days.  A week to get to Jupiter, 2 weeks to Saturn and 2 months to get to Star-Base 1 between Saturn and Uranus.

Mercury:  There is a robot colony on Mercury.

Venus: There are some homesteaders in thermal igloos.

Mars:  Being Terra-formed.  Population 18,000

Asteroid Belt: Rough and Ready population of miners 3-8k living within the belt.

Jupiter: Ganymede has several bases including secret government bases thought to have aliens.

Saturn: Titan is being terra-formed.  Population 1500

The SSN, or Solar System News Corporation, has roving reporters who traverse the solar system looking for, and reporting on, stories for earth.

Each story could end with the actual news clip.

TimeLine:

2050 – First Moon Base

2075 – First Mercury base

2100 – First Mars Base - Solar System News - First Broadcast Live From Mars City

2145 -  First ion Dark Energy Drive

2163 – First Ganymede Secret Government Base

2200 – First Titan Base

2235 – First Anti-Gravity devices

2237 – First Hotel in earth orbit

2350 – SSN buys the competition and becomes dominant supplier of news for earth from around the solar system

2375 – Present

Here area couple recent stories:

Space Pirates are attacking ships in the asteroid belt.  It is the miners vs. the pirates and the government space patrol has to come in and try to mitigate circumstances.

We send action news reporter Jason Argon and CO Sally to interview all parties.  The reporter gets shot at, captured, interviews, gets away, gets caught by the other side, and so forth.  At the end the news report is short but concise.

* *  *

An explosion on Mars at one of the atmosphere generators.  Was it terrorism?  The Martianists are known to try to monkey-wrench the systems. Maybe it was an inside job.

A story could pick up before the hero reporter makes an entrance. (whoever the hero reporter happens to be - male or female)

That way the reader knows some things that the reporters don’t, so they know when someone is lying.  (some times).

Reporters are like detectives.

Or, it could be from any point of view, these are just suggestions.  Maybe if we write our own versions based on the same events.  Certain things happen in each story that we agree on, but we tell it different points of view, and then combine together.

So, what about earth?  It is Headquarters (or is it?).  Politics as usual.

Anti-gravity cars and structures.

Climate is controlled by radio-harmonic vibrations bounced off the atmosphere – so it’s nice and sunny everywhere.  The ice at the poles was transformed to ice9, which can stay frozen at 75 degrees. The planet is lush with vegetation, a real garden.

The SSN Space Port is based in New Ohio (where Iraq used to be), because it is a good place to blast off into orbit.

SSN has spies all over the planet.  Their reporters are sophisticated.  They are all like James Bond, including the camera operators and producers.

They help each other out all the time (deus ex machina).

There are 9 moon-bases.  The Moon Office is the real headquarters for SSN.  The goofball executives from earth meddle from time to time.

The moon-based reporters are the biggest risk takers.  They will drop everything ando converge on the story. There is a lot of competition between various news teams.

SSN! monitors earth from space.

SSN also has several space stations orbiting between earth and moon.  So do other businesses, from hotels to government secret services.

The solar system in 2375 is what it must have been like for many generations before warp drive is invented, which would bring us eventually to the star trek/star wars level of technology.

Beaming-pads and holo-decks are just being developed.  The idea of showing how other sci-fi future marvels came into existence from various novels, could be the basis for many stories.   Star Trek stuff, Asimov (robots), computers revolution, Time Machine and any other sci-fi inventions.

The reporters are involved in every historical event.  They usually have someone on the inside, either as a spy reporter, or someone who they blackmail into giving them access to information.

Secret tapes and other illicit material often gets into the hands of reporters, and they use it, and whatever else they can, to get the story (rather than money - as others might do). Getting The Story is the main motivation.
